A car crashed into a tea shop owned by Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan, this week, leaving his mother-in-law injured and his 8-year-old son nearly in harm’s way.
“My mom is home and recovering, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from our team, everyone who helped prepare our space, and all who reached out with kind words,” read the post.
In the incident, a driver went over a curb and crashed into the front window of the famed tea shop on Oct. 30, sending both the driver and Corgan’s mother-in-law to the hospital for their injuries.
Meanwhile, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, but authorities said it doesn’t appear to have happened on purpose.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was accidental. At this time, no additional information is available,” the city continued.
“This afternoon at Madame Zuzu’s, a car (in circumstances which remain under investigation) drove over the curb and into Madame Zuzu’s, crashing through the window and sadly injuring one person—my mother Jenny; who was spending the day and lunching with my son Augustus,” she wrote.
“Thankfully, he [Augustus] was able to leap out of the way and was not injured,” wrote the mother of two who is also expecting the couple’s third child.
First responders were called to the scene, with local television footage showing a vehicle half inside the store and half out.
“Our family is grateful for the swift assistance of the Highland Park and Deerfield first responders,” she continued.
The couple have been together from that time on, turning their tea shop dreams to a reality before tying the knot last year.
Corgan is best known as the co-founder, lead singer, and guitarist of the popular 90s rock band The Smashing Pumpkins and is the only constant member of the group.
Releasing 13 studio albums, the group rose to notoriety with their highest-charting single “1979,” earning multiple awards over the years, including two Grammy awards for best rock band performance.
